Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty involves surgical rejuvenation of the eyelids and is often the first procedure considered by most patients. The nature of the surgery is limited in its extent and is easy to recover from. This and the fact that aging leads to early changes in the lid skin make this a further reason many women and men choose this procedure. In Asian eyes this procedure can lead to definition of an upper eyelid crease where there was none before.

Assessment in the rooms is crucial to surgical success. Your history particularly in regard to dry eyes, glaucoma, corneal surgery, hypersensitivity and thyroid disease is important. There are many causes to droopy lids or baggy eyes, often this is due to aging changes of the face with skin laxity and protrusion of fat around the eye into this skin, also the muscle layer is also thickened and can be excised with the skin and fat.

Surgery takes between 1 to 3 hours depending on the patient and if Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty are need. Lower lid Blepharoplasty can be performed with removal of a skin and muscle flap or via a transconjuctival (internal, no skin incision) technique.
